QNRWP-A WordPress Theme Released
My first WordPress theme is done. A simple, bare-bones theme for web developers, to be used as a starting point for a custom theme for a client. This theme also has one unique advantage: Quicknr Interface widgets are included. And it is GPL licenced.
The ecosystem of WordPress themes and plugins is targetted primarily at people who want to create and maintain their website by themselves, without hiring a freelancer. The idea is that you choose the theme that suits your needs, complement it with plugins that bring you additional functionality, and with no coding knowledge you can have a website. This approach works well enough in simple cases, but it isn’t without problems.
You may find it difficult and unduly time consuming to find a theme that fits. In most cases you will also discover that the theme or plugin that is available free of charge is underpowered, serving only to entice you into upgrading to a paid premium version. Depending on how many plugins you need, this can mount up, and the charges are often renewed yearly.
In truth, a theme should not require any plugins for interface functionality. Interface widgets such as galleries, sliders, carousels, collapsible menus etc. can all be implemented in a theme as custom WordPress Widgets and Shortcodes. This is one of the strengths of QNRWP-A; it is designed to implement all interface requirements using standard WordPress techniques. The theme is open source, free software. There is no premium version and there never will be.
