Another animated scrolling sample, and the scrolling is parallax.
The Parallax Hotel sample webpage engages the viewer with high quality photography of the hotel, presented large in a parallax scrolling animation. The animation is pleasantly distracting, helping to smooth the delivery of marketing slogans.
Unfortunately, mobile devices can struggle with animation, producing jumps, jitters and inaccurate navigation. Parallax scrolling of the images is therefore disabled on mobiles, but animated navigation is kept.
The page also features an improved date picking calendar that was first used in the Restaurant sample. The new version can be used for booking a hotel room in a simple form. It is fun to use, so do try it out.
With this sample, the mould is cast. Once animated, there’s no going back – lack of animation looks like lack of development. (Mobiles will catch up eventually.)
